What I expected for the price

I bought this pencil sharper to replace my 40-plus-year-old sharpener that finally died. That unit easily runs circles around its replacement. But, for the price and the important factor that I am its only user, it works okay. It is a four-star because it sharpens to point much too sharp. I find myself taping a sharpened pencil against my desk to thicken its mark.

Stanley Bostitch VS Amazon Basic

If your deciding between this and the Bostitch, go with the Amazon Basics. This pencil sharpener leaves an even sharpening pattern around the lead, VS the Bostitch which leaves wood on half the lead shank.

Works but seems really cheap

It's very light and plasticky. When you stick the pencil in, you have to have it in just the right spot for it to turn on and start sharpening. It does work however, but it's just not a very robust pencil sharpener. Probably explains why it cost so much less than all the others. We'll see how long it lasts. Edit: 2/1/23 Update! This pencil sharpener sucks. Stick a pencil in and it bogs down and stops. Tired of it doing that. Returning it.

Works great!

So glad I finally decided to get this. I got so tired of using those small manual ones that you can pick up cheap at the store and we’re always breaking the tips of our pencils or not even sharpening them well. This sharpens well, isn’t too loud, and holds a good amount of pencil shavings before having to empty. We’ve had it for several months now and it’s working great.
