Handsome design, cheap plastic innerds

I gladly bought this Kohler faucet for a new vanity. It's not cheap, but the design is great and Kohler is a brand I've trusted for decades for its quality. Imagine my surprise when upon installing, my plumber saw the spout was leaking from below into my new vanity. He took the spout out so I could return it and pointed out the PLASTIC tube attached to the underside of the spout . My plumber said he'd never seen this part in plastic and that its,always made of copper. I mentioned this to the Kohler rep and he said, "well it's an entry level item." I noted the price, and added, "I had always thought Kohler offered quality in all its products." Now I fear we will have to keep a bucket under the sink instead of using the vanity for storage.
