It's Large, It Can Hold Cords, Cables, Bikes, and Tools to Wall Brackets; Does it Need the Gates?
This is large. Has to be for the gate to open wide enough to capture a bicycle wheel or bungle of hose or extension cord bundle. But it's large. The description cites this is the "Winner of 2008 Editor's Choice Award Backpacker Magazine". Can't quite grasp the uses of one this large. I use size 4 S-Biners on my pack's back lattice or shoulder straps to quickly snap on stuff, and I prefer lashing my pack by its shoulder straps around a tree to hold it with bungee cords. While one could consider using this size 10 S-biner to clip the pack 'handle-strap' and then up to a tree limb, the gate doesn't help so much for this, especially manipulating at the tree limb end. Lullabop's Qliplet or Qlipter idea provides a better solution (swiveling, wider open hook on one end), but even then I'd only use these with a day pack to hook up to a tree, fence, or table. The Size 10 S-Biner isn't versatile enough. A big, strong plastic S-hook (no gates) might serve the really useful roles for this S-Biner even better.

Keeps our gate open
We have an aluminum fence around our back yard, and sometimes we need to keep the gate open for a while. I got these, the largest size, for that purpose. I can hook one end of the carabiner over the fence and the other over the gate, and the gate will stay open. It is easy to reverse the process to allow the gate to close, and I just hang the carabiner on the fence next to the gate to be available when needed. And the materials seem sufficiently weather resistant to hold up to our Florida sun and rain.

Durable Large Clip
Used same s-biner daily over four years to secure up to 40 lbs on moving vehicle. No visual or functional damage and no concerns of failure. Great product.

Does the job
I bought this to hook my bag to the airline seats when I work. It does what it needs to do without bending or otherwise ruining it’s Integrity. I’m sure it could be used for a variety of things.

These are nice. Only 4 out of 5 stars for two reasons. One, the sizes for these need to be easier to figure out. I bought the 10 to replace a 6 by mistake, and this one is gigantic. I'm keeping it because I apparently have a use for a human head sized s-biner now that I own one. The second is that the metal gate can come off. It isn't a big deal since these are not life support, but I lost the last one which prompted me to buy this huge thing.
