So. I wrote a raving review of the blue/white glow in the dark whistle ball at some point. Later, I bought another PD ball from this listing and the ball sucked so I left a "meh" review (below). What I didn't realize was that this review wrote over my last one! Also, it's frustrating that there are like 6+ balls here and the revoews cod be for any one of them, you have no idea which ball unless they specify. 5 Stars So, let me try doing a quick rewrite of the positive/amazing PD ball. The glow in the dark (blue/white) ball has been a staple in my home for 1.5 decades. We cannot live without it, in fact, it's Maggie's "safety ball" (think safety blanket). She can't exist comfortably without it. I actually have 3 of these balls in the house at the moment, 1) Maggie has to have hers, 2) the other pups need one to play with (because playing ball is not playing ball unless we are playing with *this* ball), and then 3) a back-up in case we lose a ball. There have been times in my life where I couldn't afford to have back ups on hand - that was hard. Inevitably, Maggie would lose her ball, or I would throw it and lose it, and then she was a panicked mess for days until the next one arrived. Sometimes we had to order them from the UK and pay $30 in shipping because they were put of stock in the U.S. Point is: these balls are important effing balls. They have the best bounce, they are the perfect weight, they are fun to chew on and aren't easily destroyed (though Maggie does like to pull the blue whistlers out sometimes, still, ball remains functional). My only complaint is that they are truly one of a kind. I have looked for a dupe for as long as I've known this ball - no dupes exist. No one makes anything that even comes close to this ball, not even Planet Dog. I keep hoping they'll release something similar (though, the orange and white glow in the dark comes kinda close...at least bounce-wise, but not texture wise and bounce is still only like 60% of the blue/white ball. Anyway. Planet Dog: more glow balls, please! They actually don't have to glow, they just need to be the same material as the glow ball. Even releasing the same ball in a different color would be something, please! ---‐----now, the review below is for the orange ball, but it could apply to most any other PD ball. the light changing ball is the same as the orange ball, except for the lights. they're too big. they're not squishy. they're hard to squeak. they just aren't it.------- 2 Stars I was hoping this ball would be great. The whistle ball from PD is the best ball ever, and they have a couple other semi-decent ones, so I thought I'd give this one a try. Darla, my 13yo, ~50lb, lab/heeler rescue mix, loves squeak balls, but when it comes to playing ball she prefers the PD whistle ball (don't we all), however, the PD whistle ball belongs to my other dog, Maggie. So, it's a rare occasion for Darla to be able to play with it. I bought this ball in hopes that it might be a decent comingling of the two - squeak and bounce. It's not. This ball is so hard to squeak. I have to use both hands to get a noise out of it, and it's hardly a squeak. Sounds more like 1/5th of a squawk. The bounce is okay, making it decent for playing/throwing, but it's too damn big. I got the medium thinking it would be suitable for medium dogs, but it's definitely not. I just logged on Amazon to see if I could return it and get it in a small, but apparently no small sizes are offered/available. Damnit. If the material was a bit softer, the size would be okay, but seeing how hard it is, the size is an issue for us. I think this ball could work for lots of dogs, it's not a bad ball. But, just know what you are getting and make sure it's right for your pup.
