Before you buy this watch to surf, this is in all intents and purposes a FASHION watch first (Catches scrathces) Extremely legible, light, and fashionable, however lacking in features and build quality. SCREEN Really clear and large LCD Display and format, numbers are large, clear and the LCD does not look cheap. The screen layout with the tides is not only large and legible but the way the tides are displayed makes it look really unique and stylish. However, the screen is very large, almost like an apple watch and the bezel does not protect it at all, making the "surf" watch ironically scratch-prone. Also, scratches with this scratch prone screen are much more noticable than most other digitals considering the fact that the entire face of the watch is the screen. CASE: The case is ABS plastic with a small metal bezel. It looks and feels pretty sturdy, but the paint scratches off quite easily, so even in the unlikely scenario the tiny (and useless screen protection-wise) bezel gets scratched, the paint will immediatlycome off. The bezel is completely incapable of warding off any scratches to the screen so it is useless and gets scratched itself. Case is waterproofed to 100M which is acceptable and I never had any waterproofing issues (I don't wear any watch in the shower due to vapor). I click buttons underwater and it seems to be fine. One thing to note is the back case is ABS plastic which is intersesting, most digi watches are metal backs. The buttons are nice, easier to press than a G-shock, rarely requires nails to push. The button placement sacrifices fashion for usefulness-the two buttons on each side are right next to each other, and the buttons are smooth and lack any grip so during workouts/surf/any rugged situtation its pretty easy to hit the wrong button by sliding or just missing. Overall, the buttons feel great, but the fashion based placement over usability keeps my feelings on it neutral. STRAP Strap is real comfortable silicon with the rip curl logo pattern on the inside, delivering good grip. The holders are extra secure-The strap is probably the most rugged part of this watch. Overall, great strap though like any other silicon strap it is quite "sticky" and get be uncomfortable in sweat and takes a long time to dry off. The strap is quite long which is great for wetsuits. The mini rip curl logo grip pattern is great for texture and grip, but also is super prone to yellowing which is somewhat disgusting and the pattern makes it very hard to wash off. FEATURES The watch tide feature is great, looks really nice as well. Most beaches are on it and you can insert your own custom spot if you need to. The tide graph is pre programmed and is good for ballpark guesstimates (obviously not going to be more accurate than Surfline, but exact calculations with waves are nigh-impossible anyways, so the given data is more than enough) The best part about the tide feature on this watch though is the ability to see the future dates' tides which is really cool, and makes this watch actually more helpful than the internet at times. However, in order to access the tide specific mode you have to wait for the name of your selected spot to scroll all the way through the screen which looks cool (again, fashion over usability here), but it gets annoying to have to wait 3-5 seconds depending on how long your spot name is..... Theres an alarm, timer, and chronograph as well, these are pretty basic and acceptable. The beeps are less harsh than most watches but this also makes the alarm less useful. Overall, this is a watch that sacrifices usability for fashion, and if you look at it through that lens, this watch delivers and looks and feels great. HOWEVER, it is a scratch magnet and honestly I do not feel comfortable surfing or doing anything rugged with this watch. I got scratches surfing and snowboarding, and because the screen is so big it amplifies every scratch. However, the watch still works fine, so I am sure it is rugged and can survive these activities, however its elegant, fashionable design looks so much worse with scratches than a more rugged looking watch.
