Fisherman's Luck in a Box
The box contains 63 hexagonal cards and an instruction sheet. That's it. That, and the price, is why I chose to give it only 3 stars. Keep that in mind as you decide on value for the buck. It is actually a simple game where players select pieces that have been placed face down on a flat surface. The backs of 40 of these cards represent water and consist of 30 fish and 10 action cards. There are 8 cards representing islands. When you set up the board you can design the "lake" in your own custom configuration. I think most kids will enjoy designing their own fishing pond. The remainder of the cards are 12 "Any Luck" cards. These are used to advance the game using instructions such as "Lose a turn" or draw more cards, etc. Lastly there are 3 "Competition" cards that are used when a player chooses to invoke a competition. Because this is a kids game (6 years or older), it's difficult to say how successful it will be for the "average" user. I have a feeling that younger kids who enjoy fishing will enjoy this game more than older kids regardless of their fondness for fishing. The good news is you don't have a game board and the shapes inspire creativity; the bad news is you don't have a game board and you have 63 game pieces to keep up with. If you are looking for a "stocking stuffer" game this is a good choice. Just don't expect it to become more than it is.

Fun, easy to learn, there being no game board has pros and cons
I liked it, cute game! It was a great stocking stuffer and a surprise as the gift recipient had never heard of it. Thankful he is still at an age where he is open to trying new things and not quite so set in his wish lists of gifts. A pro is no game board to keep up with. A con is that there is no game board and you have to have an area to set up the 63 game components (63 two-sided cards) at, so this can be fun and creative or a vexing challenge. Even if it had a game board, it is still a fun and creative game set up for kids as they essentially design what amounts to their own lake for the game to be played in. I think in the end not having a game board is a plus as the game requires so much less storage space as a result. I don't think a love of fishing or of fish is needed to play the game at all. I can't tell you long term how much of a hit it will be, as the gift recipient lives in a household with shelves and shelves of games, but they gave it a thumbs up. Instructions were clear and easy to understand and adults and kids had fun playing it.

Good quality, easy to store
With kids having so many games that take up a lot of storage space , I appreciate this small game. You need a good size area to play as it comes with over 60 large size cards. My 4 year old enjoyed playing this . It is a good quality product and a fun game for kids and the adults that play with them

Great little game that can be very unpredictable
Fishing was a great past time of mine before I had kids. These days I'm so busy with them, that I haven't gone in some ten odd years or more. I picked this game up to play with my daughter and it brought back some great memories and a lot of laughter. The game can go either way, and the cards are adorable and well made. In any instant you could lose all your fish, and then all of a sudden you find the shovel, the golden fish and the the big catch and your right back at the top again! Game comes in a nice little durable box that the cards fit perfectly in, and makes a great filler or can even fill a whole game night easily. I have to say though it is a game full of laughter. I think it could easily make a great gift for anyone who enjoys playing games even if they fish or not.
