After 3 order from others, I finally received one that opens & closes correctly

I ordered others that wouldn't extend at all or handle wouldn't tighten. I'm using this to help remove rocks from around my underpinning. Granted this one is smaller than the others but, at least it works!

This Tool is Perfect for MY Needs

The 5 star rating I've given this tool is because it perfectly fits my needs and my short stature. That said, it might NOT be the right tool for your needs and if you're a 6' tall person, you will probably end up with a back ache if you're not working in a raised bed. It is, however, the perfect tool for good soil, in any raised bed gardening. The easily adjustable handle length quickly converts it from a short potting cultivator to a longer garden hoe. It isn't flimsy, but if you are working in heavy soils, like clay it probably won't be hanging in your garden shed for more than a couple of seasons. I am using it primarily on loose soil heavily laden with rocks, pebbles and tree roots of various sizes and so far it has held up quite well to hitting these obstacles without the tines bending or the hoe dulling. It's very light weight, which means you don't have the weight of the tool head to help you get through the soil. I've found this lighter weight tool head to be a good thing for what I am doing. If you are working heavier soils, this could be a detriment. Because of the adjustable handle, I can use it standing, (but remember I'm short - 5'2") and I can also use it for closeup work under plants and bushes by collapsing it and getting on my knees. If your work is primarily in good soil, cultivating and weeding plants especially in raised beds, I strongly recommend this garden tool. If you're dealing with packed dirt or clay, especially in a large area, this probably isn't the right tool for that job.

Ideal compact cultivator

I bought this cultivator a little over a month ago with anticipation of being able to use it more than I have. Thanks to Mother Nature it has rained more than once a week the last month or so, which made it very hard to go out and work in the garden. I finally had the opportunity to get into the garden and work the ground up as it needed since the weather has gotten warmer and the ground has started to dry out. I was very pleased when I used this cultivator. It is small enough for me to be able to get into my tomato cages and scratch the ground up and keep the ground loose. And I like the idea that you can extend the handle so you can reach into harder to reach places in the garden and still be able to work the ground and not have to kill yourself getting the work done. The locking of the handle is very easy and you can choose the length as to where you want the head. I do have a couple of longer handled cultivators and they serve the purpose for larger areas of the garden. But this smaller one is just right for working the tight areas around larger plants that need the branches moved around with one hand and you can use the cultivator with your other hand and not have to worry about it being bulky and hard to control. I would recommend this cultivator to anyone that is looking for a sturdy little cultivator that does a great job and is priced very well for in my opinion a great cultivator.

Handle Lock

The handle lock often slips. It is inconvenient when using it to have to stop to twist the snap the lock into place.

Garden tool

Product works as described, however the locking system to keep the tool extended while in use fails often. This leads to frustration and the reason for minimal use.

Adjustable length makes it easier to use

This tool is great. You can sit in a chair and hoe or stand straight for most folks. Much easier on the back.

Great tool Lousy Shipper

Wonderful tool, nice metal construction, positive lock on the handle good strength on the tines. However the shipping method was TERRIBLE !!!!!! It was not packaged just wrapped in tape with a packing slip stuck to it. Needless to say the paint is all chipped from shipping, the handle on one of them is scuffed up and try to remove adhesive material from a smooth painted surface. Would buy this product again in a heartbeat but would never get anything from Black Horse.com again.
