Good in some way, but no support from the manufacturer
I purchased the Uplift Commode Assist some months ago. As soon as I assembled it, I already identified that the small push pin that ensures that the lifting mechanism is well adjusted was not working properly, as it stays practically all pressed and not completely locked like in the metal leg tab. But since I'm outside the US, and it was working fine, I didn't complain at all. Despite said, it was working perfectly until a few months ago. We noticed that when we sit on the toilet seat, it no longer makes the ''click'' and, consequently, does not lock the mechanism, despite still lifting. I tried to contact Carex for some support several times, but they never responded my messages. So, although it could be a great commode seat for some people, the company has the worse customer service that I have ever tried to reach.

Really works but be careful not to fold seat back quickly
We had to buy this for my husband. He uses it and it has worked well for him. It does raise a person up and down who cannot stand for long. I can get a diaper underneath him when he starts to get up. He uses a catheter so the design of the seat is not important to him. It might not work for a normal man without a catheter due to the design of the seat. The lifting factor is really great. He just presses a release lever on the side to get up. However, Its very important to not flip the seat over quickly when you are cleaning it or putting it together as the hinges underneath can break very easily. They should design the hinges better with a stronger material.

great concept extremely poor design
the unit ships in a display box which was torn and abused by the time it got to us. the lift was not smooth and took much more pressure to force down to lock then it provided in lift. the latch was sticking and the quality of the machine work left sharp edges which left my finger bloodied when I tried to wiggle the latch into place. requested to return it and amazon said discard it, so when I took it apart for recycling I found bent bolts, and in my opinion, cheap construction all over the silly thing. Which is sad because we have several carex items, and this is actually the first item that we purchased from them that I would consider absolute JUNK.

Sense of Independence and offers a Ta-Dah experience
This product along with a quad cane allowed me to solve a problem, which hindered my sense of independence in the work place (and at home). Due to a adult onset, progressive medical condition, I have extreme difficulties with sit to stand transitions from normal height chairs and seats. I am 34yr old male 6'3, 230 lbs. For almost a year and a half, I needed to ask colleagues to help me. After a week of using this device, (combined with the quad cane for additional support, which may not be needed for everyone), I am able to stand up all by myself - ta dah. Assembly was awkward and the instructions recommend to have a caregiver assemble it. Its a little more challenging than IKEA type furniture, but pretty straightforward. The box is heavy, but the device can be moved relatively easily. The bucket and splash guard can be removed if you fit it over a toilet seat. You'll figure out placement, depending on the size and shape of your toilet and bathroom. To rise, press a button and the seat springs you up slowly. It will remain secure while you're seated. Hold onto both arm rests as you do so. From there, depending on your footing, you should be able to stand and go. Personal situations and muscle weakness/strength in different areas will vary the ease of the device. Its an excellent product and highly recommended.

what a disappointment
the bucket and hat dont fit because they are warped and wont slide . there is nothing to keep the poo from splattering . my husband has muscular dystrophy and there is no way he could get it to function. i weigh more than my husband and i could barely get the toilet seat to go down. it is a dysfuntional product. great theory but POORLY executed and it would not fit over my mothers toilet when we went to visit her. i am so sad because we are limited to our outings and i thought this would be an answer to our problem

It's of some "get up" help. A bedside convenience for sure.
It does help to start standing....especially if you are a lighter person. Heavier persons not as much. The bathroom commode area was not big enough for it to go in, but it's a great concept.....a plastic clip holder underneath seat broke off trying to put together. It still worked.

Great product...but
Love this product! I would have given it 5 stars, but there are 2 metal pieces that hold the seat to the until and within 1 month one fell off and now 3 months later the other metal piece fell off. Both are easy to put on but once they fall off they don't like to stay on. Don't know where I can find replacement part

NOT SAFE! ok design concept, flaws in quality of material.
Poor quality bolts (4 low quality bolts is what your loved one is protected by.) No extra bolts, 1 was stripped and I could not recognize the issue until I changed to another bolt. As there is no extra I Had to find a usable bolt from my own supply. Locking mechanism does not lock. This design is terrible and leaves no room for safety backup. The whole unit wobbles so dangerous for anyone who has a medial issue! I am sending this back on Monday. Let their mother worry about safety. I hope this eliminates the chance of disaster for some family member.
