Light weight, and easy to vacuum with.
I had a commercial Oreck a while back. This one is the same , but has a low setting that is quiet. But boy, on high, this thing is LOUD !! It has a high pitch whistle that will hurt your ears ! I will use ear plugs if I use the high setting. On the plus side, it is very east to push and pull. Large bag. (Bags are low cost also) The handle is very comfortable. Long cord. Easy maintenance also. Wish they would do something about the noise ????????!

Was NOT an improvement over an older Oreck-XL model
This Oreck-XL was purchased to replace a 13 year old Oreck-XL. Two items of notable comparison are that this unit does to have a light at the base of the vacuum. (making it harder to see where you've cleaned), and the zipper for opening the vacuum bag only goes half-way down. (making it harder to replace the vacuum bags). Additionally the noise level seems somewhat loader. But other than that the suction is great and the ease of handling is good. Also I like the detachable power cord concept.

The cord is a stiff nightmare, but..
Vacuum lives (so far) up to Oreck standards and the price is right so I ditched the nightmare power cord it came with and bought one at HD that's heavy duty and grounded but pliable. Luckily the power cord on the unit has a plug at the handle and isn't permanently fused with the machine so I changed my mind on returning it because after all it Does work well, easy to maneuver light weight and low profile so easy peezy I unplugged the cord it came with and put my own on it.

Different than pictured.
The vacuum being sold is not the exact as pictured. It does not contain the "X-TENDED LIFE" placks on the bottom front, it does not contain the back pockets of the outter bag, and it most certainly does NOT come with an extra belt like the standard Oreck being sold does. I exchanged this item and found the exact same problems with the model come in, the display photos need to be updated. The first Oreck Commercial of this model type came in half dead upon arrival, very dangerous only powered on at certain angles being plugged in and made a strange sound actually running for the few seconds it did. The replacement's motor died after sucking up a small debris piece to where the brushroll stopped spinning (the auto-stop feature it advertises kept attempting to turn and made a very high pitched screeching noise). On regular use, it is indeed loud in smaller areas but not unbearable by any means. It's not much louder than your standard or even mini upright. I'm attemping a 3rd replacement or will update the review otherwise. Another huge con is the missing headlights these beauts used to have, and there not being a bottom handle for the nicely thick wire.

The first one was great. Lasted about 10 years
I have used this a couple of times now. In the past, I have had 2 Oreck uprights, not commercial. The first one was great. Lasted about 10 years. The second one, not so much. With the regular scheduled maintenance, I was always buying something that had worn out. I also replaced the cord at least once. After about 6-7 years, I had had enough and bought a Miele from the Oreck store. That was about 4 years ago. It's a workhorse. Problem is it is bulky and weighs a ton. Not hard to push, just big. We have all hard surface now but since I am getting older and doing all of my own housework, I needed something lighter. I do have a small Hoover that I use daily but is not good for those days that I REALLY want to clean which is about once a week. We have 2 large breed dogs including a German Shedder and 3 cats. So once again in the market for a light weight vacuum. The reviews on this were favorable so I purchased one through Amazon. It is very light with a heavy weight extension cord. So far, I believe it works for what I need it for. It goes over the floor, zip zip. Seems to pick up well. Flat throw rugs on low, good too. The only thing that I have found so far negative is that it will hardly move over a low pile plush type throw rug. Very hard to push, not self propelled. But anyone with hard surfaces in their home wanting a light weight vacuum, I think this is a good purchase. One warning however, get the one with 2 speeds. High is VERY loud. Low is tolerable and has enough power to do hard surfaces.

It's a good COMMERCIAL cleaner.
I'm going to start out by mentioning that I purchased this cleaner for the purpose of vacuuming office buildings. As you probably know, office buildings are carpeted with ultra-low pile carpet. Many vacuum cleaners just don't do a good job of cleaning this type of carpet. The Oreck was originally invented to clean this exact type of carpet. So, does it clean my office building? Yes. Very well. The edge clean (where the base molding meets the carpet) is decent, and the suction power is great. It is plenty good at pulling pine-needles out of the carpet. The length of the cord is great, because it lets me clean more efficiently since I don't need to be constantly plugging and replugging it in. Also, it's light as heck. So, why not 5 stars? 1. It is light. So light, that it is always tipping over. You look at it the wrong way, and it will fall over. I expect that it will eventually die from this. 2. No on-board tools. I knew this going in, and I have a backpack vac for if I need something with a hose, but a hose would be nice for those quick small jobs. 3. It SUCKS on hard floors. I know, it's an upright, and uprights aren't designed for hard floors, but I have had uprights that at least pretended to be able to work on hard floors. 4. No height adjustment - This is not a problem for me, but for a residential buyer, it is important to remember that this is a commercial vac. It is not designed to work on high-pile carpet. Will it? Possibly, but it will probably suck down so hard that you have to man-handle it around. Also, keep it away from anything loose. It will eat area rugs due to the strong suction. Now, you may be thinking, "That's a lot of negatives for a 4 star review..." and generally, I would agree with you. However, I'm guessing that a large number of buyers here are considering a commercial machine because "commercial is better made than home use" and it is, but if you get it to use in your house, you will probably be disappointed. For commercial use though, it's great.

The best
IT's the best hand down. Using it for commercial or residential you can't be Oreck. Great warranty and customer service.
