Cleared a garden more akin to a forest....

We bought these when faced with clearing a front and back garden which had been untouched for many years, leaving rhododendrons up the house gutters and brambles so well established we wondered if they were enchanted. This ploughed (well, OK, cut) through everything we turned it to, and for this type of heavy clearing work was a much better option than the narrower cut bypass type. They are relatively compact, and do not extend - both points in their favour for us, but important to know when selecting what will work best for you. In our case we cut longer sections down and then trimmed these with the loppers repeatedly into bag size pieces. They give a good clean cut, although we were surprised that the blade picked up a nick quite easily as it was only being used on timber, but not to the extent that we would lower the rating. Thoroughly recommended, and a really nice addition to the garden tool shed - if we manage to cut back far enough to find it that is...

Not as light as I thought,but great cut.

Great for larger branches on shrubs.Not very light ,if you have arthritis or no muscles and you need to reach up,but the cut is excellent.

Does the job

Does the job, unfortunately one of the handles broke. As this product has a guarantee I was able to get a replacement from amazon.

This product is very useful

Fairly easy to use, not particularly lightweight, but nevertheless a great design patented and cuts through 2" branches, I have three of these first one was not Spear and Jackson, had longer handles so more leverage, can be a little awkward to use at times, thick branches require handles to open wide.

Blade broke on second use!

Cutting softwood shrub back (Amelanchier), branches less than 2 cm. Blade has one cm notch out of it. Not what I expected of an instrument designed to do precisely that sort of pruning, esp from Spear and Jackson
