Right tool for the job. Small wooden handle makes a difference.

I'm installing interior window trim and needed to shave down the jambs so they are level with each other (which allows the trim to match up at the mitre perfectly). I caught myself unable to find my 30-year old block plane so I had to order one. This WORKPRO block plane worked excellent and is actually nicer than my ancient one. The little wooden knob allows you to maintain control of the block plane. Note the size of this tool; it is absolutely perfect for trim work.

Shiplap pine

I bought this to trim some shiplap pine boards. I am definitely not a carpenter, but this was pretty easy to use. I found out that less is more when adjusting the depth of cut.

workpro planer--get what you pay for

First, I have used a hand planer about 4 times in my life, but its not rocket science and a good tool is a good tool... For what I paid (under $20) and considering my need is seldom... this will do. I am using it to widen a refrigerator buildin (new frigs have swelled 1/2 inch) That said, I note the following pros: reasonable heft mostly steel but the top wedge is plastic. adjustability seems ok. overall size is basically palm size -18 x 5.3cm base and 4cm blade...good for small adjustments to doors, frames etc. cons...plastic wedge, small defect in the mouth (I would return but it was cheap and I think it will still work.)

I purchased several of these for the guys in my cabinet shop. We had a lesson in how to sharpen and tune a block plane. One of three or four (can’t remember how many I bought) eventually cut acceptably. The others yielded a very poor cut quality regardless of how sharp we got the iron. The fit of the iron to the mouth varied from barely acceptable to atrocious. I deliberately purchased cheap planes thinking they would be a good platform to teach sharpening and tuning. I was disappointed to find that the quality was so poor that all but one would prove to be useless. I suppose for the extremely low price they should get some credit. Our inability to get any sort of a cut even on softwoods says they could be rated 1 star across the board. We did have one that was better than the others and did actually produce a shaving that was reasonable on pine. My rating reflects that one marginal success. All things considered, I wouldn’t consider this to be a useful tool.

I used this plank to even out a job that was done on my front walkway. the workers left a lopsided plank. it worked well if your into a little manual labor.
